A Chakki base began life as part of a traditional grinding table. Reused as a low table, its proportions suit modern living rooms surprisingly well. Other designs use old carved sections within newly constructed furniture, allowing earlier workmanship and seasoned timber to remain in use. Current Kayu Home pieces include examples from Rajasthan and Gujarat, with teak, mango wood and reclaimed timbers appearing across the range.

Indian Sideboards, Dowry Chests and Vintage Indian Cabinets
Storage furniture is one of the strongest areas of the Indian Heritage collection. These pieces were made for proper household use, often from substantial hardwood, and many have survived decades precisely because they were built with a practical purpose in mind.
Our Indian Sideboards and Dowry Chests include painted sideboards, iron-bound storage chests and traditional forms such as Pithara and Damchiya chests. Pithara chests were used for storing household possessions and dowry goods, and examples in the Kayu Home range come from Rajasthan and Gujarat. Some retain old paint, metal strapping and panelled doors; others have carved decoration or simpler timber finishes.
The appeal is partly historical, though these pieces earn their place through usefulness as well. A large Indian sideboard gives generous dining-room storage.
