Brave Ground - the Dulux colour of the year 2021

Brave Ground - the Dulux colour of the year 2021

Each year a team of colour and interior design experts, architects and trend forecasters from across the globe work with Dulux to discuss current worldwide trends and to agree on a single colour that reflects the mood of the moment. Recently announced as 'Colour of the Year 2021' is Brave Ground - a colour that Dulux describes as a natural, warm neutral that brings a balance and stability to any room and that works well with stronger accent colours - allowing them to be the focus of a space. It's a reassuring, grounding colour that connects us back to nature.

With subtle hints of pink coming through in the natural morning light and darker, earthy tones in the evening it's also a colour that responds to its changing environment.

In the words of Dulux themselves, the colour was selected as an "elemental" hue that reflects "the strength we can draw from nature, our growing desire to align more with the planet and looking towards the future". In a world that is still overcoming the challenges and upheaval of coronavirus and dealing in many cases with political uncertainty, the colour has a warm, welcoming tone that can help provide a sanctuary from current events.

The colour is perfectly in keeping with our own philosophy at Kayu Home - reconnecting with nature and using natural, reclaimed materials to create a space that is welcoming and calming.  Brave Ground is an ideal backdrop to the rustic, natural shades of much of the Kayu Home range - highlighting the gorgeous, earthy tones and beautiful materials that go into our furniture and providing a background for more expansive colours and textures to create a serene but personal interior.

The lovely, natural palettes of our furniture and homewares are a perfect complement to Brave Ground, so you'll find a wealth of options to combine with the colour.

A good starting point is our Linyi Country range, made up of striking tables and cabinets made from solid reclaimed elm and poplar woods. Each piece is beautifully handcrafted and available in a rich, dark chocolate or natural finish, either of which would sit perfectly against the warm, neutral stone shades of Brave Ground. You'll also find beautiful, textured wood shades amongst our Clubside dining tables and sideboards, or our Jalan teak collection.

Narwana Ribbed Leather Armchair

Our Narwana range of chairs and stools, made from leather and distressed iron, will add softness, depth and a luxurious twist to your décor with similar natural, rustic tones to the Dulux colour. A sumptuous, soft leather chair like our Narwana ribbed armchair shown here will add a touch of class, with its warm tanned hues. It brings traditional character as well as welcome comfort. Add a matching pour for even more opulence.

Along with Brave Ground, Dulux has introduced four complementary colour ranges - ideal for combing with the colour of the year. These include a collection of warm, 'expressive' reds and pinks, 'timeless' yellows - reminiscent of sunflower fields and the late summer harvest, 'earth' blues and greens representative of our planet's skies and seas, and 'trust' browns encouraging a sense of safety, cosiness and well-being. Our own Coastal Blue range of reclaimed pine furniture fits right into the earth tones and paired with Brave Ground as a backdrop gives a perfect mix of soft, calming colours and distressed, rustic textures.

Burnt Amber Kadin Throw and Cushion

Our own range of home accessories includes cushions, throws, ceramics and stoneware that are perfect for introducing similar matching colours into your interior design. Our burnt amber Kadin throws and cushions will add colour, texture and warmth to your space, while our rustic ceramic jars and vases in a pale blue glaze will give a lovely, soft contrast to your walls.
