Elm Serving Table
Shanxi, circa 1880
This charming old table is full of character and warmth where the original reddish brown finish has largely worn, particularly on the top, to give a wonderful patina. It comes from Shanxi, central China and is made from elm wood in a functional style with straight stretchers and double braces between the legs. The legs fit directly into the table top, flanked by simple, curved spandrels. It's general purpose will have been to serve food and drink or for displaying kitchenware. Today it makes a wonderful rustic piece that would compliment a dining kitchen, living area or hallway.
