Antique Three Door Sideboard
Shanxi, circa 1890
This antique three door sideboard features a stepped bottom apron and minimalistic doors, creating a modern aesthetic that belies its age. Crafted from 'Qiu Mu' wood - part of the catalpa family - its aged finish gives the doors and top surface a beautiful patina. Most notably, the center top panel displays a lovely wood grain.
This sideboard is fitted with more recent drawer handles and the shaped apron is unusual, but the frame and panel construction and waisted top are more conventional for Chinese furniture. Each door opens individually, revealing a shelf spanning the width of the cabinet. The cabinet commands attention with its gorgeous tone and natural character, and would look great in a kitchen, dining room, or living room.
