Shanxi Three Drawer Temple Table
Shanxi, China, circa 1860
The rich dark lacquer on this lovely table has worn over the years to leave a reddish hue. The drawers are nicely decorated, with the two smaller ones depicting 'foo dogs' in carved relief - a symbol of protection in China. The bottom drawer has a scrolling design, also in carved relief. Ideal today as a hallway console with ample storage space for keys, papers and other knick knacks.
