Set of Four Large Carved Lattice Panels
Jiangsu, circa 1880
Once forming part of an internal dividing wall in Jiangsu province on China's east coast, these impressive panels were produced towards the end of the Qing dynasty. Made with thick frames in fir wood and with the central carved sections in camphor, the intricate lattice designs incorporate various flora and fauna including birds and creatures from Chinese mythology. The lattice sections are made with individual lengths of wood, each joined with mortise and tenons. It is unsual nowadays to find a set like this still together and in such good condition. They would make a lovely architctural feature in a home or could be hinged as a large screen or room divider.
Sold as a set, the price shown is for the set of four panels.
