Low Carved Xinjiang Sideboard
Xinjiang, circa 1900
This unusual sideboard, in stripped back pine and poplar wood, started off as a much deeper daybed in the far north west Chinese province of Xinjiang. It has been cut down in depth and recycled into this lovely storage unit, with the four doors and two drawers added using what were once fixed panels. The front of the sideboard is beautifully decorated in carved relief with geometric patterns that are typical of Xinjiang furniture, with its muslim influences. Great as a stand for a large TV or as a dining room buffet.
