Antique Elm Painting Table
Shanxi, China, circa 1820
Referred to as a 'painting table' this type of table would most certainly have been multipurpose, used for many general tasks ormerely just for display. Still with traces of the original thick dark lacquer on the top surface and a wonderful crackled patina. The wood beneath is elm with a central panel fitted into thick surrounding frames. With three stretchers between each set of legs and a simply shaped apron where the legs fit into the top.
